Every morning before I leave my apartment to go swimming or to take Doris to the Dog Park, my pet and I return to the bed we exited an hour earlier to recite my morning prayer.
Doris' part in this ritual is to lie still and await my strokes. My rescued pet is unhappy I am saying the words in my head, rather than out loud to her. But if I attempt to speak them, I lose my train of thought.
I have performed this observance long before my Jack Russell/Terrier mix was at my bedside. I can't pinpoint the start date, but I do know it's at least 10 years because my deceased husband's name is in the line-up.

I have an idea: Instead of crowding legislative calendars and sabotaging school board meetings, why don't distressed parents simply snatch their children out of the public schools and tuck them safely in home schooling.

Please don't make me move to senior housing. I'm 83 and fit, but what if a day comes that I'm not. Will a walker or wheelchair force me out of my intergenerational highrise and into segregated senior care
I'm not criticizing senior housing that includes apartments for independent living, assisted living, dementia care, and other licensed services. For some older adults, these facilities are the best option. And with winter weather or Covid restrictions, having all needs met indoors is obviously beneficial.
